Timi Dakolo’s song ‘Great Nation’ has been ranked as the
best professional song of 2014 by Marsh up Africa, after making a 30 song list
of the best pro songs that made the year 2014 amazing.
This ranking isn’t based on popularity of song, but also
impact, style and professionalism.
Timi Dakolo song ‘Great Nation’ won the heart of the whole
West Africa, most especially after a sudden great downfall of the Nigerian
image due to the Boko Haram terrorism in Nigeria. Timi Dakolo’s song was one to
remember, one to play and one that passed a message saying ‘Nigeria is a great
Nation, a nation to believe in despite all’. No wonder this song is the
official theme song for the 2015 presidential Election in Nigeria, and has not
lost its touch, used it a lot on adverts as a soundtrack, used for the
President of Nigeria (Goodluck Ebele Jonathan) campaign.
The song ‘Great Nation’ is a 2 year old song, that happened
to make his way into the year 2014 and constantly playing in the hearts of the
country Nigeria, and has been ranked as the best pro song in Africa of 2014,
due to its popularity, message, number of usage and great impact in the
country.

Gang of Ballet ‘Pass me By’, which was ranked as the best
pro song of the month December by Marsh Up Africa, with Timi Dakolo’s ‘Great
Nation’ being second on the December ranking list, was ranked as the second
best pro song of the year 2014 from Africa. Even if this band was ranked once, their number 2 place seems more relevant than acts that were ranked a couple of
times below the number 5 – 10.
Acts like Kennedy Tareotu and Matthew Mole were the highest
ranked, with 6 and 4 rankings respectively, with Kennedy Tareotu said to have
made record breaking songs in the year 2014, but still lacked much popularity,
Matthew Mole has quite the popularity in South Africa and did amazing in
producing great alternative songs, that made the list.
Asa was ranked twice with ‘The one who never comes , no. 10’
and ‘Dead again, no. 15’
Timi Dakolo also got another ranking for his amazing song
‘Iyawo mi’ that ranked number 12.

Timi Dakolo ahead, Gangs of Ballet and Mosa who became third for his great R
and B song that Marsh Up Africa sees as the best R and B song for 2014.
Dj Clock Remember you is one of the best pop songs in 2014
from SA, Mi casa Turn you on also an SA song with great reputation.
Maurice Kirya Uganda girl is a superb song for every Uganda
girl, and can be used as a superb soundtrack, ranking number 6.
Cobhams Asuquo ‘Ordinary People’ is a great soul fixture of
musical beauty ranking as number 7, this song won the best recording of the
year in the Nigerian Headies awards, and is just above Kennedy Tareotu ‘Stay
Alive’, one of Kennedy Tareotu’s best song of the year. The song stay Alive is a great soundtrack
with a splendid message; this song hasn’t been neglected by theater houses and
has quite a bit of international presence, as the song ranked number 8th.
Matthew Mole ranked for the first time on the 9th
with ‘Whale’ the great SA alternative singer gave us quite a great song in
Whale, passing a superb message to kids.
Number 10 – Asa ‘The one who never comes’, this song is
superb, and made it up here for being so pleasing to listen to, calm, pro
active and beautifully composed and sang.

Matthew Mole became the first act to rank twice in this
list, as he ranked 9th for the song ‘Whale’, he ranked 11th
yet again for ‘Same Part Same heart’, another great sound from him, all his
songs are amazing soundtracks.
Timi Dakolo, our number 1 man in the list became the second
person to rank twice, with his song ‘Iyawo Mi’, a beautiful love song that
cannot be neglected, ranked 12.
On the 13th is Flo with his ‘Twale’, seen as
one of the best gospel song to come out in the year 2014, so is Nathaniel
Bassey ‘Book of Life’ that made its way to the churches of Nigeria as a great
soundtrack for their drama’s and plays, which ranks as 14th.
Asa ‘Dead Again’ ranks as number 15. She became the third
act to be ranked twice, with Dead Again, a song people feel is supposed to be
her best song, and is her hit, but lost some touch later in the eyes of people.
Kennedy Tareotu became the fourth act to be ranked twice in
this list, with ‘The Freedom Song’, this song also made its way to churches and
was used for great drama and plays, with its south African feel, it is ranked
number 16.
No. 17 is Sauti Sol in ‘Still the one’, this Kenya group
made it out to the whole of Africa with a bomb shell as this song, this song
made way for their Nishike.
No 18 is Dj Kent with a great song ‘Spin my world around’,
the SA act made most of all in this song to give us a great sound and a great
chorus with ‘The Arrows’. It has a
wonderful beat, great composition.
No 19 is Tiwa Savage ‘Wanted’, a song that is supposed to be
a Nigerian great R and B song, a world class, but is criticized and neglected
for her promiscuous video. This song still made it as the number 19th
song, because it has a great vocal work and a great style, melody and is one of
the best R and B songs we got from Africa.
No 20 is Kennedy Tareotu ‘Better and greater’, this act is
the first act to be ranked thrice in this ranking, with his best record breaking
song ‘Better and greater’. This song has quite an international presence, for
breaking records as the song with the lowest note held by a musician and also
had a span of 6 octaves in the song, exposing Kennedy Tareotu’s vocal range
that spans above 7 octaves.
This song won accolades for being the song with the lowest
note, by the bass singer and is known as one of the hardest songs to sing/score
on Earth because of the very low and High notes. This song is 20th,
and thanks to its record breaking accolades that made it so.

Nosa ‘When You love me’ is number 23rd, a great
gospel from the Nigerian act.
Kennedy Tareotu now made it again to this rank for the fourth
time with his record breaking song ‘Empire rise’, this is a superb pop song, with
no African heritage, and a little techno feel, but this song is known for the
African record of the longest note held in an African song, as Kennedy held a
whistle note for 27 seconds, and is the 2nd in the world in the
record of longest note held in a song. This song is 24th on the
list.
Kennedy Tareotu again makes it as the 25th in the
list, for the fifth time he is ranked on the list, making him the highest
ranked on the list already, with five more spaces to go. His song ‘Everytime’,
is the song with the ranking, as the great Classical song exposed great music
pleasure with a great classic sound.
This song also exposed his low range as a bass/baritone
singer, and is also known for having no verse, just a chorus that consumed the
song from beginning to its end.
The number 26th song is Short straw ‘couch
potato’, a wonderful pop rock song from
the SA band, it drives electrics into your body because of its amazing sound.
Niyola ‘Toh bad’, might have sounded a bit like a song with
a redone Beyonce beat, but this song made it as number 27th as the
best African Pro song of 2014. This song is a love song with great singing
sensation.
Solomon Lange ‘Na gode’ is 28th, a dialect
African song, sang in Hausa. This traditional song is a well composed song and
is a great soundtrack. One of the best traditional songs in 2014.
Matthew Mole ‘As if you were never wrong’ wins Matthew Mole
his fourth rankings on this list, after the song makes it as a great pro sound
with beautiful instrumentation and singing sensation.
On the 30th number is the highest ranked man,
Kennedy Tareotu, ranking for the 6th time with ‘Would we be
forever’. This song makes him ranks 6 times in 30. This song is a philosophical
song and is ranked as the best Jazz song of 2014 in Africa. This song is a
great composition by Ken, asking if we would live forever? And if it is over when
