MurdaA KENNEDY TAREOTU REVIEW.
(SEYI SHAY. PATORANKING. SHAYDEE)

INSTRUMENTAL
It’s a little captivating the way every Nigerian song instrumental would sound. It’s a bit fixed on what you are expecting to hear, but this song didn’t give a little smash through its instrumental, it gave something more.
The first sound that came out of this song didn’t matter because of the instrument used, even though the choice of instrument was key to its success, but the melody the choice of instrument played was the winner of the song. It was a simple four progression pattern which could be used in a pop genre by its pace or rightly in any song by its pace.
In this song the rhythm created in the instrumental was not only essential for a great song, but was what made the singers creative.
I am impressed hearing a superb beat with only few instruments in it.

SINGING SENSATION
It’s not really easy to have three good voices in a song dragging for spotlight. From the beginning of the song till its end, you could hear three distinctive voices that took a major role, but how well did they do?
When I was reviewing this song over and over again, someone chipped a question to me asking who did best and who had the best verse. I silently shrugged away the question, but it’s definitely a great question.
The only reason why three voices could perfectly match on one and the other and seem fine was because of the style and durability of each of the singers. We have a patois also known as patwa vocalist, two R and B vocalist with a difference, being male and female.
A patwa head voice mixed with both a male or feminine R and B head voice seems absolutely right, and if the three takes a take at once, you would still hear a difference between the three voices, because you would hear patwa, masculine and feminine head voices; that’s three different reasonable sounds at once.
This is a typical R and B song with a raga mixture, just because of Patoranking’s voice alone.
It’s no lie that every Nigerian would expect to hear a great mixture from Nigeria’s best Patwa musician at the moment, one of Nigeria’s best female vocalist at the moment and Nigeria’s best back up act.
The vocal attribution of Seyi shay was a strong power to the song, being the only feminine voice present, her contribution was definitely needed. She gave a great head voice with fantastic adlibs, her shallow skills and a good range helped the song to be more melodious.
The vocal attribution of Patoranking is well known; his Patwa has been perfect for a long while. In this song the contribution was just a significant presence of something different, which is the technique and vocal texture of a patwa voice.
Shaydee left us with a great back up presence, but once at the end a shady skill or addlib, but at the chorus of the song Shaydee’s impact is highly noted even by all listeners, and his bridge/outro matched and gave essence to the song.
The best voice on this song is a singer whose range was well noticed, I would give that to Sheyi shay, for the vocal control, strength and ability to give a vocal thinness and vocal presence when needed.
LYRICAL CONTENT
‘She say she wants murder’
‘She say she wanna do that thing’.
This is a chorus lyric with a simple message, but the little poetic essence in this lyric is noted; for the word murder didn’t mean death, but still meant wanting to be killed or I would use the word dealt with – on the bed anyways. It’s a great thought.
The lyrical content of the whole song is a little above the average mark because of the ‘once in a while poetic licenses used’, and the use of syllables and repetitions of words to fit the tune.
‘Bum! Bum! Bum!’
‘Gun! Gun! Gun!’
‘Have some fun’(in verse 2)
That’s an example of the repetitions to fit in tune used to give the song a greater melodious impact.
COMPOSITION
Four heads were essential to this song; Dr Frabs who gave a great instrumental play producing the song, and the three artists present in the song.
The composition of this song was well arranged to fit in the African market, and yes it’s a great song that does fit.
But:
I won’t use this song alone to say the artists in them are extremely fantastic, even if they are…Nigerians would love to see Shaydee leave the shades and shadow and present himself out as a front man, and Seyi Shay could tackle the likes of Tiwa Savage because she has a comparable voice but not a comparable personality at the moment, and a number of few hits that hasn’t been good enough to compare the likes. Patoranking is going all the way; we wish to see better works.
